Student Life

At a university level, the students of the Károli Gáspár University are represented by the Student Union (EHÖK). The responsibilities of the Student Union include assisting the communication between the enrolled students and the University, representing the students’ interests in higher education and academic matters, as well as at regional and national organizations. The EHÖK has to coordinate the work of the Student Unions of the Faculties too, and it has membership in international student organizations as well.

Károli Gáspár University has a really active and developing student life. The Student Union organizes and offers a wide range of cultural and professional programs for the students. The Student Union encourages everyone to meet their professors and schoolmates outside the university as well, to make new friendships and establish new contacts.

The Károli Community Days are held each semester before the autumn and spring break. During these occasions, a variety of lectures are organized for the students, related to their field of studies and future professions, held by their professors or recognized professionals of their fields. For example, law students have the opportunity to attend presentations held by judges, lawyers, or prosecutors who introduce the course of their careers. The last day of the event is Sports Day, where the participants can play football, handball, basketball, volleyball, or try zumba. The more courageous students can even join a battle of paintball.

The students of the University can take part in a wide range of amateur sports teams in futsal, basketball, handball, volleyball, or water polo. These teams play in amateur championships organized among other universities and colleges. The opportunity to join is open for everyone, even for absolute beginners. Apart from sports activities, students have the opportunity to learn traditional Hungarian folk dance as well.

The Faculty of Theology offers many spiritual programs for the students since active religious/spiritual life is considered important and encouraged at the University. At the Ráday Student, Residence Hall Bible study groups are held once every week for the occupants. There are similar occasions organized by the pastor of the University as well. The Faculty itself offers even more religious programs, for example, there is collective prayer at noon on weekdays, and there are also different prayer groups coordinated by the enthusiastic students of the Faculty.

The Bocskai István College for Advanced Studies is an autonomous institution with high standards of professional training. Its goal is to provide high-quality education, support talented students and educate professionally motivated and ambitious young intellectuals. To achieve these goals the members of the College for Advanced Studies work in two workshops based on their field of studies which are the following: public or private law.

KAPSZLI is a non-profit organization founded in 2004. Its members, who study Psychology at the University, organize and host conferences and events in order to introduce the science of Psychology to everyone. During these presentations, which are often held by well-known professionals of their respective fields, interesting current topics and new discoveries in Psychology are discussed. Furthermore, KAPSZLI prepares students for their future professional life.

Each year KAPSZLI organizes one of the largest conferences in Hungary in the field of Psychology with 40 lectures and over 20-30 workshops over 3 days. Throughout the year smaller lectures are held on a monthly basis. The preparations of these lectures, including designing webpages and posters, contacting lecturers, advertisement, looking for sponsors, are all arranged by the members of KAPSZLI, who are constantly working on improving their organization.

    Scholarship Programme for Christian Young People

    The core mission of the Scholarship Programme for Christian Young People is to provide the possibility of studying in Hungary for young Christian students living in the crisis regions of the world and/or being threatened in their country because of their faith.

    For the 2021/22 academic year, the scholarship is announced for the citizens of the following countries: Egypt, Lebanese Republic, Republic of Iraq, State of Israel,Palestine, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Syrian Arab Republic, Republic of Kenya, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia,Republic of Armenia and Nigeria.

    Károli Christian Scholarship

    Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary founded a scholarship to provide the opportunity of studying in Hungary for young Christian students from certain countries in the Middle East, Asia and Africa. The Programme is financed and managed by Károli Gáspár University.

    Number of places available: maximum 5 applicants will be granted the scholarship

    Károli Christian Scholarship covers the followings: tuition-free education, monthly allowance contribution to the living expenses, dormitory place for the whole duration of the scholarship period, reimbursement of travel costs to/from home country, medical insurance in Hungary.

    Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship

    Applicants of certain countries may have the possibility to apply for the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme financed by the Hungarian state. The scholarship covers the entire tuition fee, budget for accommodation (or contribution to accommodation costs) and medical insurance in Hungary.

    This study program is available with Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship for the citizens of the following countries: Albania, Algeria, Argentine, Cambodia, Cape Verde, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kosovo, Kurdistan Regional Government/Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, Myanmar, Namibia, North Macedonia, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Yemen

    1. Stipendium Hungaricum

    Founded by the Hungarian Government in 2013, the programme is supervised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. It is based on bilateral education agreements between Hungary and the governments of the sending countries, and is already available on five continents in approximately 80 countries, attracting more than 5000 international students each year.

    2. Scholarship Programme for Christian Young People

    This scholarship was founded in 2017 by the Government of Hungary. The core mission of the SCYP is to provide opportunities to pursue higher education studies in Hungarian host institutions for Christian youth living in crisis regions of the world or being threatened in their countries because of their faith.

    3. Károli Christian Scholarship

    Our University founded this scholarship in 2019 to provide the opportunity of studying in Hungary for young Christian students from certain countries in the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

    4. Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship

    The Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship was established by the Hungarian Government in 2020 for those who live in a Hungarian diaspora outside of Europe and wish to study at a Hungarian higher education institution to develop their personal, professional and cultural relations to Hungary.

    Campus Life & Facilities

    The University Library Association aims at developing its library collection in order to support the education and research with access to scientific databases and independent service providers as access as well.

    Students are welcome to join the excellent KRE Főnixek (Phoenixes) football, handball, volleyball, basketball or water polo teams during the study term. Our sportsmen can take part in inter-university competitions and even may put together their own team for the local fall and summer sports days, tournaments and championships.

    The carrier counselling helps the students to recognise and focus on their own values, skills and abilities, and provides guidance towards carrier paths in the chosen fields of study.

    General language courses in 9 languages are taught at beginner and advanced level, but if required, the Foreign Language Department is ready to offer other language courses, too.

    With most of its buildings located in the heart of Budapest, the university offers a friendly cosmopolitan hub to students from all around the world. Combined with our Buddy Programme that involves volunteering fellow students, our International Team will ensure that you will be supported throughout your time at Károli.
