MISSION AND VISION

The mission of the University is to educate at all levels of higher education and in lifelong learning mode in close connection with scientific and research & development works carried out at the University in cooperation with future employers of university graduates and in contact with society.

The vision is to create a leading university of technology in the country, well recognized in Europe, an important and sought-after partner of foreign universities, guaranteeing high quality education and a global level of scientific and research & development works.

EDUCATION

Today, the Poznan University of Technology offers education at 9 faculties, running a total of 31 fields of study. About 16,000 first and second cycle students, doctoral and postgraduate students study here. Over 1,300 academic teachers care about their education. The didactic offer of Poznan University of Technology is modern, rich and adapted to the requirements of not only domestic but also foreign employers.

Students choose studies at our University because of the high level of education, well-prepared staff, as well as the opportunity to fully realize their scientific and non-scientific interests and a friendly atmosphere. The University's real pride are students who are successful in international competitions, working in scientific associations and student organizations.

Poznan University of Technology arose from the Higher School of Machine Construction, which was founded in 1919. PUT boasts nearly a century of experience in educating highly qualified engineers and researchers in many areas.

Currently, PUT has nearly 16 000 students in 9 faculties:

Education is provided in 31 fields of study, of which seven in first-cycle and twelve in second-cycle are given entirely in English.

Science for the people

The Wielkopolskie voivodeship, and Poznan in particular offer enormous prospects. Poznan boasts the lowest unemployment rate in the country as its circumstances encourage industrialists to set up their businesses here. At present, there are approximately 100 000 businesses active in this city.

Poznan University of Technology is a place where students can gain experience closely connected with the reality of the labor market. They are educated in accordance with the changing requirements of business and industry. A program of dual studies has been developed in collaboration with companies such as Volkswagen Poznań, Solaris Bus & Coach S. A., Phoenix Contact Wielkopolska, STER, Beiersdorf Manufacturing Poznań, Blum Polska sp. zo. o., Zakłady Mechaniczne Kazimieruk. In this program students can obtain an education that goes hand in hand with requirements and expectations of the labor market, they can pursue additional training courses or obtain language certificates, and above all, it is a program of studies where theory is closely connected with practice in the best companies. Students who complete a program of dual studies find employment in the companies involved in it.

Besides the companies already mentioned the list of partners includes: Samsung Electronics, Amica, Man Bus, HCP-Poznań, Luvena, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals S. A.), Dalkia, Budimex, Skanska, MTP-Poznań, BZ WBK – Group Santander, and many others.

In March 2017 the First Academic Consortium has formed One Belt One Road between universities in Poland and in China, the first undertaking of this type in the world. The consortium comprises 15 universities and organizations in China and 11 technical universities in Poland, including PUT. A result of the collaboration is the creation of Confucius Class, where PUT employees and students can study Chinese with native speakers of Chinese straight from China. Another effect is the creation of a Sino-Polish Research Centre of the New Silk Road. It aims to bring together major technical universities from Poland and China. The main objectives of the Centre will be to transfer science, education, culture and consequently also a business.

In November 2016 a Huawei Academy was opened at Poznan University of Technology, the first of its kind in Poland. A modern laboratory was built, where students can study modern Huawei technologies. They can expand their knowledge of modern technologies through practical classes conducted by professionals in this field.

Since 2014 a Centre of Aviation has been in existence with a modern flight simulator; PUT has a fleet of two aircraft: Zlin 242L and Extra 330 LX as well as MDM-1Fox air glider. At present PUT students can be educated in two fields: Aviation and Cosmonautics.

New research laboratories have been created or equipped in a modern way. At the university operates the European Centre of Bioinformatics and Genomics, set up by a consortium composed of the Poznan University of Technology and the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The purpose of the centre, included on the Research Infrastructure Road Map, is to develop strategic research and increase the transfer of R&D results to the economy.

International cooperation

PUT has signed around 460 international agreements with universities in Europe and outside. The University has been participating in the Erasmus+ programme and bilateral exchange agreements for many years. In scientific research, PUT collaborates with as many as 190 universities from around the world.

Double degree – double advantage

Foreign universities recognize the high level of education and professionalism in teaching and research offered at PUT, and in order to improve education standards, special agreements have been signed with universities in France – Lille and Ukraine – Kyiv Technical University- for the following fields of study: Corporate Management; Mechanical Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering. These agreements enable students to obtain two degrees upon completing a joint programme of study.

Technology in a positive feeling

PUT students can join one of the 76 science groups and 11 students' organizations. There is also a student radio station Radio Afera, a students' TV station Spacja TV, a university choir "Volantes Soni", the folk dance group „Poligrodzianie”, etc.

Every month there is a meeting called "PUT around the world - Intercultural Cafe" where Polish and International students, as well as employees, present their home countries according to different topics. It is a great opportunity to meet new friends, expand awareness about other cultures with a cup of coffee and in a friendly atmosphere. The events organized by students are university students’ festival – Juvenalia, concerts, Robots Sumo competition, Championships of Team Programing.

PUT also has 40 sporting clubs where nearly 1200 students exercise regularly. In 2019 PUT was the fifth in the general classification and the fourth in the category of technical universities of Polish Academic Championship. The PUT Sports Centre has facilities for tennis, bowling, spinning, field hockey, indoor rowing, squash as well as gyms.
