Program Description

International Economic Law is crucial for the majority of transnational activities. Become an expert in this field!

The two-year LLM stu­dy pro­gram­me of­fers an in-depth stu­dy of in­ter­na­tio­nal eco­no­mic law with a dou­ble de­gree from Leu­pha­na Uni­ver­si­ty Lüne­burg in Ger­ma­ny and the Uni­ver­si­ty of Glas­gow in Scot­land, or the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies in Bar­ba­dos.

The programme brings students from all over the world together. It combines private and public international economic law and offers a holistic approach to this area of law.

During your first year of study in Lüneburg, you learn how to engage scientifically with the structures and most important players of international economic law. During your second year in Glasgow or Bridgetown, you can focus on more specific subjects such as Corporate & Financial Law, International Commercial Law, International Competition Law or Intellectual Property Law.

The mixture of compulsory modules and electives is a unique feature of the program. It enables you to acquire profound knowledge in different fields of international economic law, a basic idea of the functions of international relations and markets as well as the skills to analyze the chances and risks of global relationships and international economic regulations.

Programme Structure

You will spend the first year (October to August) in Lüneburg and the second year (September to August) either in Glasgow or Barbados.

In Lüneburg, you complete six compulsory modules. For each of this modules you receive ten credit points: In­ter­na­tio­nal Law, In­ter­na­tio­nal Eco­no­mic Law, Eu­ro­pean Law, Eu­ro­pean Eco­no­mic Law, In­ter­na­tio­nal Pri­va­te Law and Eu­ro­pean Pri­va­te Law.

In Glasgow, you can choo­se one spe­cia­li­sa­ti­on out of se­ven: Cor­po­ra­te & Fi­nan­ci­al Law, In­tel­lec­tu­al Pro­per­ty & the Di­gi­tal Eco­no­my, In­ter­na­tio­nal Com­mer­ci­al Law, In­ter­na­tio­nal Com­pe­ti­ti­on Law & Po­li­cy, In­ter­na­tio­nal Eco­no­mic Law, In­ter­na­tio­nal Law, or In­ter­na­tio­nal Law & Se­cu­ri­ty.

In Bridgetown, you have the op­por­tu­ni­ty to choo­se cour­ses from a wide ran­ge of mo­du­les in the field of Cor­po­ra­te & Com­mer­ci­al Law and Pu­blic Law, for example cor­po­ra­te law, fi­nan­ci­al law, in­tel­lec­tu­al pro­per­ty law and trans­na­tio­nal com­mer­ci­al tran­sac­tions law.

Ba­sed on the con­so­li­da­ted know­ledge gai­ned in the first year and the spe­cia­li­sa­ti­on in the se­cond year, stu­dents com­ple­te their stu­dies by wri­ting their Mas­ters dis­ser­ta­ti­on.

All modules in this international programme are in English. The close cooperation between the three universities allows you not only to acquire professional qualifications, but also cultural and language skills, which are of great importance in international economic law.

Career Prospects

If you want to work in management positions of multinational companies or in advisory positions in both the private or the public sector, this is the ideal program for you. You will be well prepared for these positions because of the profound knowledge of international economic law that you gain in the core area of the programme as well as the interdisciplinary and intercultural competencies you aquire during your specialisation.

The dif­fe­rent op­tions for spe­cia­li­sa­ti­on also al­low em­pha­sis on va­rious pro­fes­sio­nal fiel­ds and ca­re­ers in aca­de­mic con­texts in re­se­arch, teaching, and ad­mi­nis­tra­ti­on.
